About La Plagne

Why ski here

La Plagne features 225 kilometers of local pistes, primarily consisting of wide blue and red runs, making it particularly suitable for beginners and intermediates. The terrain is varied, with options for glacier skiing and snowparks, which add excitement to the experience. The resort is part of the larger Paradiski domain, linking it with Les Arcs, and gives modern lifts that facilitate access to extensive skiing areas. This geographical setup allows skiers to enjoy a range of conditions and landscapes, from gentle slopes to more challenging runs.

La Plagne has produced notable winter sports talent — Tess Ledeux, trained at the resort's freestyle club, became the youngest-ever freestyle ski world champion at 15 and won Olympic silver in big air at Beijing 2022. The resort's 1992 Olympic bobsled track still hosts IBSF World Cup rounds and is open to the public for tourist runs — a rare off-slope experience. Areas like Plagne Centre and Plagne Bellecôte give direct ski-in/ski-out access to the main piste network.

For a rest day, the Olympic bobsled track offers public rides at speeds up to 80 km/h — an experience hard to find at any other ski resort. The traditional village of Champagny-en-Vanoise, at the southern edge of the domain, is worth a visit for its quieter atmosphere and views into the Vanoise National Park. Families can also try the resort's sledging runs, tubing lanes, and snow gardens scattered across the 11 villages.

When to visit

  • December - April

The best time to ski in La Plagne is from December to April, with December marking the start of the ski season. The resort's 1992 Olympic bobsled track occasionally hosts IBSF World Cup rounds and offers public rides throughout the winter. January and February provide excellent snow coverage, attracting serious skiers and families alike, while March and April offer milder weather and longer days, creating a good time for enjoyable skiing and experiencing the après-ski scene.

Peak season brings busy crowds, especially during school holidays, which enhances the lively atmosphere but may lead to longer lift lines. Off-peak months, particularly early December and late March, present quieter slopes, allowing for a more peaceful experience. Although La Plagne is primarily a winter destination, the off-season transforms the area, with summer activities like hiking and mountain biking becoming available, showcasing the region's varied offerings throughout the year.
