Where to go in Andorra

  • Arinsal

    Arinsal

Best December - April · 14 ski hotels

Arinsal features wide, gentle tree-lined slopes that suit families and beginners, excellent choice for those new to skiing. The terrain is complemented by reliable snow cover, maintained by an extensive network of snow cannons. The resort's compact nature allows for easy navigation between runs, improving the skiing experience. With snowfall typically beginning in December and peaking in January, conditions remain excellent throughout the season, particularly suitable for spring skiing in March.

  • La Massana

    La Massana

Best December - April · 14 ski hotels

La Massana gives direct access to the Pal-Arinsal ski area via gondola, connecting the village directly to the slopes of the Pal sector. The terrain is well suited for families and beginners, with many gentle blue and red runs that allow for a relaxed skiing experience. The village atmosphere adds charm, presenting a quieter alternative to larger Andorran resorts while still giving access to the wider Pal Arinsal ski domain.

  • Soldeu

    Soldeu

Best December - April · 14 ski hotels

Soldeu is a flagship village in Grandvalira, the largest ski domain in the Pyrenees with 210 km of pistes spread across six interconnected sectors — all accessible with a single lift pass. The high-altitude terrain maintains excellent snow conditions throughout the season, while the variety of slopes accommodates all skill levels. Families appreciate the highly rated ski schools, intermediates enjoy the well-groomed trails, and advanced skiers can challenge themselves on the black runs and freeride zones. The legendary Àvet slope is particularly notable, having hosted the Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup Finals in 2019 and 2023.

  • Ordino

    Ordino

Best December - April · 9 ski hotels

Ordino-Arcalís features a vertical drop that reaches impressive heights, with its summit elevation granting access to varied terrain. The area is celebrated for its north-facing slopes, which guarantee reliable snow conditions throughout the season. Skiers can explore 30.5 kilometers of groomed pistes across the entire resort, including La Megaverda, the longest green run in the Pyrenees at around 8 km, alongside steep reds and blacks that challenge advanced riders. Additionally, the resort's 21 freeride zones and more than 120 off-piste routes make it a prime location for those seeking adventure in the backcountry.

About Andorra

Why ski here

Andorra puts conditioned pistes beside wooded off piste terrain and cross country trails. Pal and Arinsal offer green runs for beginners, black runs for experts, slalom tracks and freestyle areas. Their sectors sit in La Massana and connect by cable car, linking village access with the mountain. Ordino Arcalís adds steep slopes and extensive off piste terrain, while ski schools teach from beginner to advanced. Alpine, Nordic and off piste skiing all feature in the country’s winter terrain.

From the centre of La Massana, a cable car reaches the Pal sector; another leaves from the village of Arinsal. A free bus connects the area with La Massana, and free parking is available in each sector. Live piste conditions and weather forecasts help with day planning. The Borrufa Trophy appears among Andorra’s winter events. Across Pal and Arinsal, the terrain ranges from gentle beginner runs to black runs and freestyle areas.

Restaurants in the Pal sector serve rice dishes, stone roasted meats and local products. Fira d’Andorra and the Borrufa Trophy appear in the event listings. A slower day can centre on La Massana and the dining options in the area.

Highlights

  • Linked ski terrain

Grandvalira links seven sectors, including Pas de la Casa, Grau Roig, Encamp, Soldeu, El Tarter and Canillo.

  • Seasonal buses to ski sectors

Free buses serve Grandvalira's sectors during the season, with international airports nearby.

  • Snowmaking across ski areas

Grandvalira can make snow across 66% of its skiable area, and Andorra has frequent sunny days in winter.

  • Snowshoe miles between ski days

Snowshoe excursions through Andorra's valleys and forests offer another way to explore winter terrain.

  • Take care off piste

Andorra has wooded areas for off-piste skiing; take the necessary safety measures on winter routes.

When to visit

January offers cold, dry snow, quieter pistes and good midwinter value, especially after the Three Kings holiday crowds clear. February brings the deepest, most dependable base, but overlapping school holidays make the slopes busier and queues longer. The opening week of February falls before most half-term crowds arrive. March suits skiers after long, sunny days and a deep base, with crowds and prices easing once the school holidays pass. Spring snow freezes overnight, then softens through the day. Lower, sunny runs can turn slushy by afternoon.

Early December is quieter and cheaper, but coverage can be patchy while natural snow builds, and some lower runs may not be open. The Christmas to New Year period brings a sharp rise in crowds and prices. April offers the emptiest slopes and lowest prices, but the season usually winds down early in the month. Lower runs may be slushy or closed, so late-season skiing depends on high ground and is best early in the day.

Frequently asked questions

Practical answers about ski in Andorra.

Grandvalira includes Pas de la Casa, Grau Roig, Soldeu, El Tarter, Canillo and Encamp. Pal Arinsal has green beginner slopes and challenging black runs. Ordino Arcalís has steep pistes and extensive off-piste terrain.

Ski schools across Andorra’s resorts offer courses from beginner to advanced. Pal Arinsal offers equipment rental, and Ski Canaro teaches Alpine skiing basics at any age. A Grandvalira beginner pass only covers beginner areas, not the wider lift network.

Bus services connect Andorra with Barcelona, Toulouse and Lleida. From Spain, trains reach Lleida, with coach connections onward to Andorra. From France, coach services link Andorra with the closest rail stations, L'Hospitalet-près-l'Andorre and La Tour de Carol.
